Za’atar Sweet Potato Fritters with Herbed Yogurt Dip
These Za’atar Sweet Potato Fritters are crisp, savory, and lightly spiced with Middle Eastern flair. Paired with a cool and tangy herbed yogurt dip, they’re perfect for mezze platters, brunches, or as a fun vegetarian appetizer.
Ingredients
For the fritters:
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and grated
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp za’atar+
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for frying
For the herbed yogurt dip:
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh dill or parsley
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Fritter Mixture
In a large bowl, mix grated sweet potatoes, red onion, flour, egg, za’atar, baking powder, salt, and pepper until the batter holds together.
- Fry the Fritters
Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Scoop heaping Spoonfuls of the mixture, flatten slightly, and fry for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Make the Dip
Combine yogurt, lemon juice, herbs, garlic, and salt in a bowl. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Serve
Arrange fritters on a platter and serve with the herbed yogurt dip on the side.
